Understanding Your New Construction Home Warranty

Understanding your new construction home warranty with Alturas Homes

Buying a new construction home is an exciting milestone. You get to walk into a home that was thoughtfully designed and built for you. But what happens after you get the keys?

At Alturas Homes, we believe our relationship with homeowners doesn’t end at closing. In fact, that’s when a new part of the relationship begins. From your New Homeowner Orientation to our 30-day check-in and one-year warranty review, our in-house Customer Care team is here to help you feel confident and cared for in your new home.

Your New Homeowner Orientation

Before you close on your home, you’ll have a New Homeowner Orientation (NHO). Members of our Customer Care team and your community superintendent will join you.

The NHO takes place after your home inspection and before closing. It gives you time to walk through your new home with our team. You can also ask questions and become familiar with how everything works.

During the orientation, we’ll review important systems and maintenance items. We’ll also explain our warranty process. You’ll receive your Homeowner Manual and NHO materials, too.

We’ll walk through a detailed checklist together. If your inspection or NHO identifies an item that needs attention, we’ll document it. This may include damage that needs repair or work that is not yet complete.

We’ll make every effort to address these items before your scheduled closing date. Some items may depend on material availability or contractor scheduling. If that happens, our team will continue working to complete them as soon as possible.

But the NHO is about more than checking boxes.

It’s one of our favorite opportunities to spend time with our homeowners. We can answer questions, get to know you and start building a relationship.

By the time you receive your keys, you’re not just buying an Alturas home. You’re becoming part of the Alturas Homes family.

What Happens After You Get the Keys?

Once you close, our team continues to work through any remaining items. We address them as quickly as possible.

Some items may require a backordered material or a contractor appointment. When that happens, we’ll keep working toward completion as soon as possible.

And, of course, there’s a little something to celebrate your new home. You’ll receive a new homeowner basket filled with a few fun items from our team.

But the care doesn’t stop there.

Your 30-Day New Construction Home Warranty Check-In

Living in your home feels different from walking through it during an inspection or orientation. Once you settle in, you may notice questions or items that weren’t apparent on day one.

That’s why an Alturas Homes Customer Care representative will automatically reach out about 30 days after closing. You’ll receive an email with a reminder to submit any warranty requests.

This gives you time to experience your home. You can learn its systems and make a list of anything you want our team to review.

You can submit a warranty request through our online Customer Care portal. From there, a member of our in-house Customer Care team will review it.

Your request doesn’t disappear into an automated system. A real person reviews every claim. Our team determines whether the concern falls under warranty or routine homeowner maintenance.

Someone from our team will respond within two business days.

If you’re not sure whether something is covered, that’s okay. We’re happy to help you understand the difference.

Warranty vs. Home Maintenance

Owning a home comes with ongoing maintenance. Understanding what falls under homeowner responsibility and warranty coverage is an important part of homeownership.

Certain aspects of your home fall under our limited warranty. Appliances and other products may also have separate manufacturer warranties.

Other items fall under routine home maintenance. These responsibilities belong to the homeowner.

The good news? You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

If you have a question about something in your home, reach out to our Customer Care team. We can help you understand whether it is a warranty concern or a maintenance item.

We also provide a maintenance knowledge base with helpful resources. These resources can help you learn more about caring for your home.

Your 11-Month Warranty Review

As you approach the end of your first year of homeownership, you’ll have another opportunity to connect with our Customer Care team.

Near the end of your eleventh month, we encourage you to submit any remaining warranty concerns. This gives our team time to review them before your one-year warranty expires.

It’s another intentional touchpoint during your first year. It also gives you an opportunity to bring forward concerns that may have developed over time.

More Than a Warranty

A new construction home warranty provides important peace of mind. For us, customer care means more than a warranty document or an online request.

It’s about the people behind your home.

When you buy a home with Alturas Homes, you build a relationship that lasts long after your purchase. We’re proud of the care and quality built into each home.

Our in-house Customer Care team is committed to being there when you need us.
